Three kilometre and 500m up on Cobalt Lake Trail, you are at the scenic eponymous mountain lake; further up - 4km and 800m mark - is peak 5040. Up in alpine, there are mountain views, with glimpses of the Pacific Ocean, and a light display of wildflowers. This was a 2 day backpack with us overnighting at Cobalt Lake, located west of Port Alberni, BC.
